Dry needling is a manual therapy for the treatment of myofascial pain. Myofascial trigger points, or muscle knots, are regions of hypoxia where the muscle fibers are unable to unbind. Dry needling uses an acupuncture monofilament needle to open up and unbind the muscle fibers to allow for relaxation.
